7 Household Chores that Your Kids (or Grandkids) can do this Summer
They’re out of school for the summer. What are they going to do? What are YOU going to do to keep them busy and out of mischief?
We think it’s never too early to let kids help out around the house. It gives them a sense of accomplishment, of contributing to the household … a sense of self-worth and value. And even if the chore is relatively small or easy to do, it instills a habit of helping out and doing their part.
Here are seven simple household chores kids can be taught to do:
- Wipe the Counters
- Vacuum the Floors
- Fold the Laundry
- Take Out the Garbage
- Load the Dishwasher
- Make the Beds
- Set the Table
Remember, even though they may have seen YOU do these chores hundreds of times, kids don’t automatically know how to do them. You have to teach your kids how to do these chores. You need to show them what you want them to do and how to do it.
Be patient with mistakes … because kids WILL make mistakes. Gently correct and encourage trying again.
And don’t fill their entire day with chores! It IS summer vacation, after all, and kids need time to be kids. Enjoy your summer!
