Cleaning and Disinfecting Properly

January 20, 2014 By Michele Peterson

Cleaning and Disinfecting Properly

Are YOU cleaning and disinfecting properly?

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends this 3-step process to clean and disinfect household surfaces:

1 – Wash surfaces with a general household cleaner to remove germs.

2 – Rinse with water.

3 – Apply a disinfectant registered with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to kill germs, especially the flu virus.

To make your own disinfectant, the CDC recommends a mixture of ¼ c. bleach per gallon of water.

We at Mini Mops make our own Bleach Mix, which is a combination of bleach, detergent, and water. While we can’t tell you the exact recipe (that’s our trade secret), you can be assured that it’s an even higher concentration than what the CDC suggests.

We like to be extra thorough!

Happy New Year! Here’s to New Beginnings

January 20, 2014 By Suzette Peterson

2013-2014 Happy New Year Here's to New Beginnings

“Let go of yesterday. Let today be a new beginning and be the best that you can, and you’ll get to where God wants you to be.”   ― Joel Osteen

As we start another year together, I’m thinking about new beginnings.

Are you beginning anything new this year?

I’m not talking about a simple New Year’s Resolution. I’m talking about beginning a new stage of life — you know, the biggies like getting married, having a child, starting a new job, moving …

The biggie for me this year is turning 65. I’ve signed up for MediCare, and I’ve started looking at retirement.

Now, I’ve told friends and family that I’ve been “semi-retired” for the past few years. But I really haven’t been. In fact, I’ve been busier and have worked harder than ever … at least it’s felt that way!

But now my doctor is telling me that I have to seriously start making plans to slow down. And that really is a biggie for me.

So, to begin with, I’m going to schedule more time away. I’ve got a little trailer in Pismo that I’ll visit more often. I’ll take more time to have coffee or lunch with my “girls.” Maybe I’ll start taking naps!

Luckily, I won’t have to worry about the business. God has blessed me with excellent employees, and my son Ron has taken over a lot of the day-to-day operations.

So as I transition into really being semi-retired, I’ll get to do the business stuff I enjoy most … like talking to you! Next time we talk, please let me know if you’ve read any good books lately!

It’s All About the People in Your Life

December 23, 2013 By Suzette Peterson

“What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas … perhaps … means a little bit more!”
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I think Christmas means a LOT more, don’t you? Christmas is special because of the people you share it with. It’s not about the presents, or about how your house looks …

It’s not about how the house is decorated, or even if it’s clean or dirty. Who has ever looked back on their memories of past Christmases and said, “Boy, I loved how CLEAN the house was!”? (Unless, of course, the homeowner was a hoarder and the cleanliness of the house truly was remarkable … But that’s an entirely different topic for another article.)

No, holiday memories are all about the people who help you make the memories.

Don’t get me wrong … you definitely should make sure your house is clean for your guests. You certainly don’t want them to remember the holidays because of how dirty your house was.

I just mean your relationships are more important than the material stuff like the presents under the tree, or how clean the floor is.

Personally, in addition to my family and friends, I value the relationships I’ve developed through Mini Mops over the years. This year has been a good one because of PEOPLE … our hard-working employees, our vendors, and YOU, our clients.

I hope you make it a point to celebrate your special relationships this holiday season.

Merry Christmas!

Real House Cleaning Pros Don’t Use Feather Dusters!

November 25, 2013 By Michele Peterson

Unhappy kid - veggies for dinnerHave you ever watched a kid push food around on his plate? You know, the food that you want him to eat but that he doesn’t (generally a vegetable of some sort) …

Somehow, he thinks that if he just moves it around enough that it will disappear. Or it will at least look like he’s eaten some of it, and he’ll be off the hook.

He hasn’t actually removed any of this food from his plate (unless he’s exceptionally sneaky and your family dog happens to like the offending food item). But he hopes that just moving it around is good enough.

You’re wise to this trick, though, and you make sure that he eats what he’s supposed to. Right?

Dusting with a feather duster is just like that kid moving food around on his plate. You’re moving the dust around, but it’s all still there. You haven’t actually DONE anything to remove it.

The feathers of a brand-new feather duster will pick up some of the dust, but not all of it by any means. And a feather duster quickly loses even that limited efficiency.

Do this instead …

So instead of feather dusters, we use soft flannel dust cloths and Endust. We instruct our house cleaning workers to spray Endust on the dust cloth because it works as a dust magnet. It helps to pick the dust particles up, capture them on that cloth, and leave a clean surface behind.

In our experience, this has worked very well … MUCH better than feather dusters.

And, after all, isn’t that why you hire us? To get the job done and done well?

Until next time … Keep it Clean!
